Adding extra living area to your Micro Camper

So I am thinking of what I can write my first blog about this is difficult to choose as it needs to be something that could massively enhance your Micro Camper experience I think it is a good idea to start big so Awnings it is.

As Micro Campers are not the largest of Campervans adding addition real estate which you are able to stand up in, will make a big difference to your holiday experience come rain or shine. So what awning have I used with my Micro Camper

The Kids and I went away for the weekend to West Bay on the Dorset coast, We needed some additional space for storing our chairs and table while we were away but I did not want anything to elaborate for a weekend. I have a wealth of knowledge of tents and awnings having been in the industry for over 20 years so I thought a Pop-up tent would be the way to go. I only had one requirement and that was for it to fit on top of the Micro Camper unit in the boot, So pack dimensions were key, If you are unfamiliar with Pop up tents they come in a round bag, After a bit of research we went for the Quechua 2 Second Fresh & Black Popup 2 man tent  from Decathlon priced at £59.99. I was really impressed with the quality, features and how dark it is inside during the daylight hours, It takes a bit of getting used to putting up and down like all pop up tents but the good thing with this one  is the instructions are sewn into the bag so you can’t lose or damage them, When setting up  it does not need loads of pegging, We will use this for overnight stops for the children to sleep in, Fingers crossed I don’t end up in the tent and not in my comfy Micro Camper bed  for more details follow the link Quechua 2 Second Fresh & Black Popup 2 man tent

Anyway back to awnings which what we are meant to be talking about, Redcote Leisure supply 3 Kampa awning at the moment two rear fitting and one side fitting so far the only one I have used is the Kampa Travel Pod Tailgater it is a nice compact awning that attaches to the rear of the Micro Camper it is constructed with Fibreglass poles. What I liked about this awning is the way it connects the Micro Camper and awning together, I don’t mean fixing wise, I mean it flowed nicely with the awning really enhancing the Micro Camper it feels like one space rather than a separate awning. I have the optional fleece carpet which gave the awning a cosy feel the carpet can be kept in the Micro Camper at all times as it makes a great picnic blanket. The awning has 2 large doors both with mosquito nets, The side door has a peak to protect the entrance when it rains. The other addition that we will be using is the optional two berth bedroom inner tent. The awning is a great spec, 3000 mm hydrostatic head (This is a measure of waterproof for those not in the know) and taped seams, it is excellent value for money. The Kampa Travel Pod Tailgater Air is very similar to the Standard Tailgater but is inflatable and slightly larger it has the same sort of feel but without the long fibreglass poles it can be inflated in two ways the first is by the manual pump that comes with the awning at the second by the aptly named Gale electric pump this runs off the 12v socket t in your car making life easier, This is the pump I will be using on our August trip as if fits nicely under my driver’s seat. This is the most expensive awning we do but for the quality and ease of use, it is far better priced than other inflatable awnings on the market. for more detail please follow link Kampa Travel Pod Tailgater Air

The final awning we do is the Kampa Travel Pod Mini this is a side fixing awning this is the largest awning we do with an excellent panoramic window to take in the wonderful views. This awning comes as standard with a 2 berth inner tent the only downside is the awning only has one door and this is not a wet weather entrance but  if you need a bit more space or have rear barn doors this is a good option for more detail please follow link Kampa Travel Pod Mini  with this awning you may need to buy additional fixing to attach the awning to the Micro Camper I will be review these in a later blog so keep an eye out

The other thing that does benefit all the awnings is the addition of Universal canopy poles this allows you to convert the main door into a sun canopy giving you an outside space to sit in out of the sun. I always use rock pegs along with a claw hammer as you never know how hard the ground will be when you arrive at the campsite
